Update: Our Response to Coronavirus
We are anticipating when we can safely welcome volunteers back on our build sites. At this time, we have made the decision for volunteer build days to resume on Saturday, May 30th.
We will continue to closely monitor recommendations from Habitat for Humanity International and the CDC regarding the Covid-19 outbreak.
We know that safe, decent, affordable housing is of utmost importance during a crisis like this and we thank you for your support of our mission and your faith in our work in the Gwinnett community.

We hope you are staying healthy, safe, and well during this time. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors, we are very grateful that we have the funding to stay on track with our build schedule and continue our new home construction during this crisis. We are on track to complete our first 2 homes of 2020 in June – both families are eagerly anticipating their move-in date of July 1st!
Looking ahead, we are anticipating when we can safely welcome volunteers back to our build sites. At this time, we have made the decision for volunteer build days to resume on Saturday, May 30th.
We will continue to closely monitor recommendations from Habitat for Humanity International and the CDC regarding the Covid-19 outbreak. As we get closer to the May 30th build day, we will be sure to re-assess our plan and adjust accordingly if recommended.
Our first priority is always to support the health and safety of our volunteers, donors, stakeholders, homeowners, and staff. To be as proactive as possible, we will make adjustments to our volunteer build day procedures for Check-In, Lunch, Check-Out and Worksite Sanitation, including the below:
- New Volunteer Check-In Process
- All volunteers and staff that plan on attending scheduled build day will be asked to follow all safety recommendations from the CDC.
- Volunteers, Homeowners and Homeowner Supporters will be required to pre-register before attending any scheduled build day. We will ensure that we do not exceed the recommended group gathering restrictions per the CDC’s Social Distancing Guidelines.
- Volunteers, Homeowners and Homeowner Supporters are to wait at designated signs for check-in to assure compliance with respectful social distance.
- Lunch and Breaks
- Separate water coolers will be located directly in front of each project site.
- Each volunteer group will have a designated lunch time.
- Volunteers are encouraged to practice social distancing during lunch break.
- Lunch will continue to be individually wrapped.
- Before, during, and after each volunteer lunch group, hospitality volunteers will sanitize the lunch area.
- New End-of-Day Process
- At the end of the day, all tools will be placed in designated sanitation zone to be properly cleaned and stored away by Gwinnett Habitat Staff and Crew Leaders.
- All gloves and aprons will be washed after each build day.
- Plastic containers will be clearly marked with dirty and clean signs to help organize personal protection equipment.
- Improved Sanitization Stations
- Running water and soap will be available on site through our portable lavatory.
- Disinfectant cleaning spray will be used by Gwinnett Habitat staff throughout the day.
- Hand wipes and hands sanitizer will be on site when available.

We wanted to provide you with an update that our offices will remain closed and all volunteer activities suspended through April 30th to protect the health of all of our staff, volunteers, and partners.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and other partners, we are so grateful that we have the funding and resources available to stay on track with our build schedule and continue our new home construction during this crisis.
Last week, our construction staff and subcontractors worked to complete all of the siding and insulation on the two new homes that we are building in Snellville. The drywall installation started today and will be completed over the next week. We are still tracking for both of these homes to be completed and dedicated to the families in June!
We will continue to provide you with updates regarding our construction progress via email and social media. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to when we can welcome you back to our build site!

home construction during this crisis.
Over the last two weeks, we have certainly missed our volunteers helping us on the build site, but we have used subcontractors to keep us on schedule for the completion of our first 2 homes in Snellville by June.
On Houses #146 and #147, we have roughed in the plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and dried in both houses. The roofing is scheduled to be completed over the next week. They’re really coming along!
We look forward to re-opening our office soon to welcome volunteers and sponsors to our build sites again!
