Meet Jamie + Noah
We are proud to introduce Jamie and her son Noah. They are the fifth of five homes on a 1.07 acre lot and #GwinnettBuild144. They are also part of our Thrivent Financial Faith Build.
We sat down with Jamie and her son this past Spring as the construction season was just getting started to hear their story. She is a single mother of five children, with one at home, her son, Noah. She is a strong woman, a faithful child of God, and a warrior survivor of domestic violence.
Jamie first heard about Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity through an Internet search looking for volunteer opportunities. As she was browsing our website, she found out we didn’t have any open spots for construction volunteers, but we did have information about applying to become a homeowner. She signed up to receive homeowner orientation information and then went on her way getting involved with various volunteer opportunities through her church instead. Months passed and then she found out it was application season. Her nerves almost got the best of her, but she decided to stay and listen to the whole program. Again nervous, Jamie didn’t know if she should apply or not, but she realized she needed to fill out the application, that this was meant for her.
Jamie and her son, Noah, prayed for this home for months before they found out they had been accepted through Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity this past December. Her current home is filled with mold, floods often, and is in a dangerous neighborhood, while her rent continues to rise to unaffordable rates.
In her new home, Jamie is most excited about improving their health and the continued relationships she has formed with the other homeowners going through this process alongside her. She looks forward to seeing what God does with this experience and these relationships.
It’s important for Jamie to share with others that, “you are important, you mean something, you have a purpose. If anyone is telling you anything different, it’s a lie. God doesn’t make mistakes. You may have made mistakes, but you are not a mistake.”
